The pain it causes him to suffer brings him closer and closer to insanity although he hides this pain and encroaching madness behind an air of conceitedness and arrogance. As time goes by however, it becomes more and more difficult to hide his exhaustion as he becomes more and more reliant on Professor Clover's tonics.
